During a working visit to the Netherlands on September 17, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang held meetings with Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, Dutch Climate Change Ambassador; Mr. Steven Collet, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs responsible for the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Forum; and Ms. Meike van Ginneken, Dutch Water Ambassador.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang underscored the urgent need for action, highlighting that Viet Nam is among the countries most severely affected by increasingly complex climate change impacts. Events like Typhoon Yagi, which caused devastating floods and landslides, leading to significant loss of life and property in many localities, serve as stark reminders of the situation. She urged the Netherlands to continue supporting Viet Nam in enhancing its climate change adaptation capacity, improving forecasting, preventing flash floods and landslides, managing water resources sustainably, developing green and smart agriculture, and transitioning to clean energy and green development.
She also expressed gratitude for the Netherlands' active role as one of the three key partners of the P4G Forum. Their support has been instrumental in Viet Nam's successful bid to host the fourth P4G Summit in 2025. She called on the Netherlands to continue cooperating closely with Viet Nam in preparing for and organizing this significant event.
The Dutch partners agreed to intensify cooperation with Viet Nam on climate change and effectively implement the outcomes of the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change and Water Management, which took place in the Netherlands in June 2024.
The Dutch Ambassador affirmed that the Netherlands supports Viet Nam’s preparations and will work closely with key members and the P4G Secretariat to help ensure the success of the summit, contributing to global efforts on green growth, climate change response, and the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
