Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Decision No. 1041/QD-TTg assigning the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Mekong River Commission.
According to the Decision, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy is assigned to assume the position of Permanent Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Mekong River Commission, Member of the Council of the International Mekong River Commission of Viet Nam.
This Decision took effect from the date of signing (September 24, 2024); replaced Article 1 of Decision No. 892/QD-TTg dated July 25, 2023 of the Prime Minister on the assignment of the Permanent Vice Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Mekong River Commission.

The Viet Nam Mekong River Commission is an inter-sectoral coordination organization, assisting the Prime Minister in directing and managing inter-sectoral, inter-provincial and inter-national activities to effectively and sustainably manage and use water resources and related resources in the Mekong River Basin.
The Viet Nam Mekong River Commission is responsible for researching and proposing to the Prime Minister directions and solutions to solve important, inter-sectoral, and transnational issues in the Mekong River Basin, including the Mekong River Basin and the Sesan-Srepok River Basin of Viet Nam.
In addition, the Committee also assists the Prime Minister in directing, coordinating and harmonizing ministries, sectors, localities, international, regional and domestic organizations and partners and relevant individuals in monitoring, inspecting and supervising the implementation of inter-sectoral activities in the Mekong River Basin, including the Mekong River Basin and the Sesan – Srepok River Basins of Viet Nam.
At the same time, assist the Prime Minister in urging ministries, branches, localities and relevant organizations and individuals to: Implement the Mekong River Basin Sustainable Development Cooperation Agreement and related regulations and procedures; implement inter-provincial river basin water resource planning; environmental and specialized planning for exploitation and use of water resources in the Mekong River Basin and Se San - Srepok River Basin...
Along with that, organize scientific and technological research and propose solutions to minimize the impact of socio-economic development activities of upstream countries on Viet Nam's territories in the Mekong River Basin in the context of climate change; the impact of Viet Nam's socio-economic development activities in the Mekong River Basin has cross-border impacts...
Completing the members of the COP26 Steering Committee, including: Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Do Duc Duy (Standing Member); Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh (Member).
This Decision took effect from the date of signing and promulgation (September 24, 2024).
