Since the launch of its first project in 2008, the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Fund, financed by the German Federal Government, has made significant contributions by promoting various programs and projects to support Viet Nam in implementing the Paris Agreement and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
IKI is funding over 500 million euros for bilateral projects with Viet Nam and activities within regional projects. IKI's portfolio in Viet Nam now includes 35 bilateral, regional, and global projects under four funding areas: greenhouse gas emission reduction, adaptation to climate change impacts, conservation and restoration of natural carbon sinks, and biodiversity preservation.
At the recent IKI Viet Nam Annual Workshop 2024, Mr. Daniel Herrmann, Chief Advisor of the IKI Hub project at the German International Cooperation Organization – GIZ, highlighted the importance of gender equality in the global implementation of IKI. IKI projects are actively working to establish a Community of Practice on Gender Equality (CoP) in Viet Nam. This initiative aims to promote learning, facilitate cooperation, enhance vision, and foster coordination among projects in their approaches to achieving gender equality.
"We believe that establishing the CoP is a foundation for promoting knowledge updates in the future and sharing lessons on gender equality practices among IKI projects in Viet Nam," said Mr. Daniel Herrmann.
At the workshop, representatives from 27 IKI projects in Viet Nam also shared their views on economic tools' opportunities for climate and biodiversity. Presentations from state agencies and group discussions highlighted the crucial role of financial tools in the country's decarbonization roadmap and various aspects of IKI project activities.
